Meet the Owner
My name is Betty Lamar. I am the only child to my mother Claudina Lamar and my father Cesar Lamar. I was born in Ecuador, a small country in South America, and moved to the USA when I was a teen. We worked together for many years and my parents wanted out family business to continue with their grandchildren. In addition to that, my dream was to have a coffee shop with authentic coffee from Ecuador. Although it is a small country, Ecuador has so many wonderful things to offer and I want to share this amazing food and culture with everyone we meet.
The Family Behind the Business
I am a mother of two children Jasmine and Joao Lamar and married to my supportive husband Pablo Emilio Romero. My children and I run the business day to day, with my daughter Jasmine as the cashier and my son Joao as the barista. My father’s dream has come true-the family business has grown and expanded to his grandchildren. We are proud to keep the family business going.
Zaruma Gold Coffee at Lamar’s
Beginning in 1960’s, Lamar’s was formerly known as the Griffins Barbecue Place here in Goldsboro, NC, and my parents bought it from Mr. Dukes Purnell back in June of 1998. It begin as a wonderful Mexican restaurant here in town, but after some years, my parents made the decision to retire. After sitting vacant for over 10 years, I decided to pursue my dream of opening a coffee shop and began to remodel. I am proud to see the progress and how far it comes as it now stands as Zaruma Gold Coffee at Lamar’s where we welcome the community to enjoy Ecuadorian coffee, cuisine in an spacious environment where they can study, relax, or gather with friends and family.
“Betty and her family are some of the Gold in Goldsboro! When you visit Lamar’s you will always find smiling service and perhaps the best cup of coffee in town sourced from Betty’s home of Ecuador”
